Dr John Cross

Jones

Research:
Dr Cross's research activities include the investigation of haematological changes in infections in farmed red deer, primarily yersiniosis, tuberculosis and malignant catarrhal fever, including the investigation of acute phase proteins as markers of inflammation in these conditions. He has worked in collaboration with the Royal Zoological Society in London on inflammation in reindeer and other deer and antelope species. A further research interest is in computer pattern generation in chronic diseases, a system developed by him for Macintosh computers having been used experimentally in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) diagnosis. He is also interested in computer aided learning as an adjunct to undergraduate laboratory work, and has developed software for this purpose.

Other Activities:
Interests are cricket, really - and a few much less important things. My activities include the following: In my previous post with this University I have maintained collaborative activities with staff at MAF Invermay over a 10 year period, with several joint publications resulting. Other collaborative activities include the Wildlife Information Service based in the Royal Veterinary College, London, and the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Society in Gloucestershire (UK), with whom I established a joint research project last year. My principal teaching duties are in the Biology 115 laboratories, and enabling postgraduate students to use computer software as well as assisting with statistics.
